Showforce has a distinguished history when it comes to stage shows and musical theatre. The company has worked with Cameron Mackintosh throughout its 29-year history. Mary Poppins, Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, Half a Sixpence, Miss Saigon and Hamilton are just some of the famous productions that Showforce has assisted with all over the world.
The company’s experienced stagehands have supported Cameron Mackintosh with the install and de-rig at multiple iconic venues over the years including the English National Ballet, Victoria and Albert Museum, Queens Theatre, Palace Theatre and Prince Edward Theatre.
Key tasks include the load in of lighting and sound equipment, props and scenery; assisting with stage build and scenery construction; hanging of drapes; changing and testing of follow spots and loading in costumes. Crew numbers vary from between two and twenty depending on the production and task at hand. Given the long-standing nature of Showforce’s relationship with Cameron Macintosh, it ensures that there is continuity in the crew provided. The duration of a single project can be anything from a few days to three months depending on the scale of the install.
In addition, during 2016 and 2017, Showforce travelled across the UK and Europe when Mary Poppins went out on tour. Touring a show of that scale was obviously logistically challenging. There were no fewer than 18 45-foot trailers that required unloading and loading at each venue, taking some 22 hours to load out following a show and three days to unload at the next. Showforce’s crew worked around the clock to complete each leg of the job within the allotted timeframe. In addition, the crew assisted the show’s production team with installing the stage set, as well as helping out with props, lighting and sound as and when required. The tour ended with a run of shows at Dubai Opera where Showforce is the in-house crewing provider.
“With over 50 productions currently running around the world, nine of which are UK touring and West End productions, I’m very grateful to the Showforce team for all their invaluable assistance in pre-production and technical support and their supply of reliable and hard-working crew.”
