In May of 2024, Showforce was appointed by Done + Dusted to provide crew for Ring Of Fire – Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk, a professional boxing match that would crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 2000. In the end it was Usyk that won the bout by split decision with a rumoured rematch clause to be activated at some point.
Showforce’s team of crew peaked at 80+ a day and was onsite from 4th May – 20th May, working around the clock to ensure the event’s seamless delivery. Two highly experienced crew managers from the UK were flown in to oversee the project, with one assigned to the day shift and the other heading up the night shift. We also supplied international crew chiefs to head up ten departments onsite. These included general site crew, rigging, lighting, power, pyrotechnics, audio, set design, LED screens, drapes and show call crew. In addition, we supplied forklift drivers throughout the build and derig.
When the crew arrived at The Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, KSA, the the venue was still very much a building site which obviously presented some challenges for the team. The crew’s first task was to create a safe site compound for the production personnel and an office area for the client and its various stakeholders. The crew created a boneyard inside and outside the unfinished venue before moving on to loading and unloading trucks. The team also assisted with stage construction, installing lighting and audio rigs, supporting the various suppliers in each department, including Unusual Rigging, PRG, Agora, and Creative Technology.
Throughout the build period, there were several changes to crew numbers and call times. Despite the last-minute cancellations, uplifts, and call time changes for some departments, Showforce’s excellent communication between site and its office-based operations team ensured all requirements were met promptly and efficiently. This was spearheaded by the UK crew manager who was the main point of contact for the client and the conduit to the operations team. By proactively addressing the changes initiated by the client, we were able to keep the schedule updated and find solutions. The excellent communication between the client, the onsite team, and the back-office team made this project a success.
