In August 2024, Showforce was contracted by Done + Dusted to provide crew to support them in the delivery of the Esports World Cup, held at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. Our team was onsite for 26 days, from 5th to 30th August, across 13 departments, including rigging, lighting, power, pyro, audio, set and LED screens. It was a challenging build not only because of its complexity and the various elements involved but also because the venue was still under construction.
The crew were tasked with unloading equipment for the event’s suppliers including PRG, Agora, Unusual Rigging, Creative Technology, and Pixmob. They then assisted each department with the install of their equipment. Logistics were critical, with the team managing the delivery of kit to specific locations within the venue. Alongside their technical roles, the crew also took charge of site safety, implementing rigorous health and safety protocols to protect both the crew and contractors on a site that was still very much a building zone.
Numbers regularly peaked at over 80 crew per day with crew managers and chiefs coordinating all activities, including operating forklifts and cherry pickers to ensure the project stayed on track.
The biggest challenge for the team was working in an unfinished venue. The Kingdom Arena was filled with cranes, wagons, forklifts, and cherry pickers, making it essential for Showforce’s crew boss to enforce strict safety measures. No-go zones were set up to minimise the risk of accidents, and communication between departments was key for the crew. Despite the challenges, the team remained focused on meeting Done + Dusted’s production schedule, ensuring all equipment was installed and helping to build a world-class esports event.
However, with successful collaboration between Done + Dusted and other contractors onsite and strong communication, the crew were able to adapt to the changing conditions of the venue and handle last-minute adjustments.
The Esports World Cup 2024 was a resounding success. Showforce’s ability to deliver under difficult circumstances, particularly with an unfinished venue, is a testament to the crew’s expertise and commitment. The project was completed on time, safely and the production was praised for its efficiency and seamless execution.
In total 5,494 man hours were amassed during the project
