Showforce’s crew played an integral role in the delivery of the pre-match show and awards ceremony at the AFC Championship League Final 2024 held at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Home side Al Ain took on Japan’s Yokohama F. Marinos in the second leg on Saturday 25th May, securing a 5-1 win.
Brand activation agency PICO contracted a team of 130 Showforce crew, that included a crew manager, six crew chiefs and a 123 crew members. The assembled team worked together in extreme heat for two days to perfect the performance that was broadcast live across the EMEA region.
The crew’s core responsibility was to ensure that pre-match banners for Al Ain, Yokohama F-Marinos and the AFC Championship League banner were correctly lifted into position. Post-match the crew were tasked with setting up the winner’s podium, carpet and banners for the awards ceremony.
Crew were onsite for two days in total, with the first dedicated to rehearsals and then the second being for the match day. To manage large numbers of crew ensuring that they are given specific instructions and deliver precisely on the day is no easy task. In this case, having the right leadership team in place, with a highly experienced crew manager and crew chiefs who were comfortable with the client’s requirements, ensured seamless delivery. placing the right people with the right experience in leadership roles.
This was evidenced by the great feedback we received. Pico’s technical director said:
“Its occasions like this that should be celebrated, nervous end client, a live broadcast to millions, difficult venue to deliver anything other than a football match from, and then there are teams that have been put together such as your crew for this AFC Champions league Final 2024.
With soaring temperatures and rehearsals starting in the hottest part of the day, you might expect tempers to begin to wear thin, but your team stood the test of it all and ultimately delivered a perfect performance in front of multiple millions for the global broadcast, let alone the 25,000 of fans inside the stadium.
Thank you for your support, your office staff who dealt with all the last-minute changes and of course the entire team who came and smashed it.
Special thanks to each of the crew chiefs, who got on with it, never really stopping when others had the chance to rest, and with multiple languages being spoken throughout managing to make sure everyone knew what they were doing.
A massive credit to your crew manager who stood firm, first in and last out, a true Parachute Regiment belief. They are a credit to you and Showforce who I’ve known can deliver from as far back as the early 1990’s just it’s a great feeling to show others.”
